Beyond Jogging
Time flies so fast. We’ve said it so many times but it’s true. It's been a year and two months since we published the Japanese version of Beyond Jogging. Thanks to you all who loved our book, we are almost out of stock. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Beyond Jogging is a book in which Mike Spino talks about joy and possibilities of running quoting his own experience. The original edition “Beyond Jogging : the innerspaces of running” came out in the 1970s, then was republished in the US by Tom and Max from District Vision in 2018. When we found the book, we instantly thought “we need to deliver this book to our community in Japan.” With the help of Tom and Max, and Takafumi Kondo who is known for translating BORN TO RUN, we created the Japanese version. As we look back now, this book is made out of love for Mike and running.
When Mike and we talked for the first time connecting Atlanta, Kyoto and Tokyo via Zoom, we were a little nervous. Probably Mike was too. But his gentle words, big smiles, beautiful gray hair, and his excitement which seemed impossible to be contained in the small Mac screen, relieved us in no time. Mike also liked us trying our best English to tell the love for the book. Since then, our meeting always ends with “love you” to each other.
The book made out of love was loved by the people who are into running and also who are not.
To tell the truth, it’s hard to explain “Beyond Jogging” even for us. “A book about holistic running” is an option, but it misses something.
Because it covers so much.
It talks about taking pleasure in running, finding the essence more important than speed and distance, the way of athletes in the future, being an artist as a runner. We go on a running journey as we read from page 1 to the last.
We hope reading this book helps you to think better about where running goes from here and how you want to run. May Beyond Jogging be accepted in your own way as your running is unique in your own way.
Love,
Haru @ mokusei publishers. 22nd Feb 2023.
